1. Definition and Scope
Behavioral medicine can be defined as the interdisciplinary field concerned with the development and integration of psychosocial, behavioral and biomedical knowledge relevant to health and illness and the application of this knowledge to prevention, etiology, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. The scope of "behavioral medicine" extends from research efforts to understand fundamental biobehavioral mechanisms; to clinical diagnosis and intervention; to disease prevention and health promotion. The Thai Society of Behavioral Medicine (TSBM) is intended to serve the needs of all health-related disciplines, professional and personnel concerned with the integration of psychosocial behavioral and biomedical sciences.
2. Goals
The goals of the TSBM shall include, but shall not be limited to, the following:
1. To encourage and promote exchanges of scientific information and professional experiences in all areas of behavioral medicine, and to develop and maintain liaison with International Society of Behavioral Medicine (ISBM) and other related local and international professional organizations.
2. To encourage and co-ordinate communication and interaction among various health professionals including biomedical and behavioral science researchers and clinicians, without regard to specific discipline loyalties.
3. To stimulate research, as well as clinical, preventive and training activities through formal meetings, collaborative undertakings and awards for meritorious effort.
4. To develop guidelines for implementation of behavioral medicine training and research activities at various levels in the health sciences.
5. To serve as an information resource for behavioral medicine by facilitating access to scientific and professional journals computer-based information systems, and organization of scientific meetings/conferences.
3. Membership
Graduate or medical students engaged in research programs within these fields may become student members. 4. Governance The governing body of The Thai Society of Behavioral Medicine consists of a President, a vice President, a Secretary-General, and four Executive Members. The membership elects this governing body either by postal vote or by a general meeting every second year, based on a list of eligible and willing candidates, and with proper representation of disciplines, geographical areas, and gender. Whenever possible, the vice-President should be elected as the next President. At least until further notice, and until the organization has gained the necessary stability, the President and the Secretary-General should be at the same institution that will cover administrative costs and expenses for the organization. Members will be charged with the equivalent of one hundred Thai Bahts per year for registration in the TSBM. (Approximately 2.25 US$) Members will cover their own costs for participation in meetings, all other administrative costs will be covered by the host institution (the institution of the President and the Secretary-General). The host institution (institution of the chair person and secretary) should be responsible for the communication between the Thai members, local associations, and the international association, and to improve communication between the members. The communication between the national members will be based on electronic mail (Email), and ordinary mail for those not connected with the network. 5. Changes in By Law These By Law may be changed when at least 50% of the members accepts the change. These changes must not be in disagreement with the general charter of The International Society of Behavioral Medicine (ISBM), and dramatic changes in the charter should be presented for the ISBM before final approval. |
